Car Accident Injury Compensation Lawyers

How to claim car accident compensation

Getting the car accident injury compensation you are owed begins with you. After being involved in a car accident it can be difficult to regroup and gather information, but that’s exactly what you’ll need to do in order to get the compensation you are entitled to. Insurance companies are always on the look out for ways to avoid having to pay claims, and often this means finding errors or loopholes that were left by the victim.

Follow these steps:

If you’ve been in a car accident, taking the following steps will help you get the car accident personal injury compensation you are owed, with as few mistakes and delays as possible:

  • Don’t leave the scene of the accident- Once the accident has occurred; stay on the scene until the proper authorities arrive. Don’t leave for any reason; doing so could be used against you.

  • Gather as much information on the scene as you can- Get a copy of the police report, the other driver’s license, insurance details of both CTP (green slip) and 3rd party (if they have it), and other information such as their number plate, contact details including name,  address, phone no. and e-mail address. You should also ask any witnesses if they would be prepared to make a statement, if they can't stay at the scene ask for their contact details so the police can contact them. If they do stay make a statement seek a copy of the witness statements from the police if possible.

  • Seek medical attention as soon as possible¬-Even if you are experiencing no signs of physical pain or discomfort, seek medical attention anyway. Get a copy of your medical exams and evaluations to keep for your records as well.

  • Inform the insurance company- You should inform your insurance company as soon as possible that you have you been involved in accident. Provide them with any and all information that they need in order to work on your behalf. The third party's CTP insurance company need to be contacted and a claim lodged if you are injured - strict time limits apply so it's important to inform your insurance company quickly.

  • Keep documentation regarding everything- Having documentation regarding your accident injuries and the surrounding events is critical for your claim, in order to get car accident injury compensation. No matter how seemingly insignificant or unnecessary, keep all documentation regarding your accident in a safe location for future reference. You should also make copies and keep them at a second location, if possible.

  • Don’t sign or agree to anything before seeking counsel¬-One of the biggest mistakes you can make is to prematurely sign-off or agree to anything that the other party or insurance company offers you. Don’t agree to anything without first seeking  specialist legal advice from a Personal Injury Lawyer. • Contact a lawyer- Car accident injury compensation lawyers are familiar with working on behalf of the injured to negotiate settlements in their claims. If you’re like most victims, you won’t come close to getting the amount of compensation that you are owed on your own. Seeking independant legal advice is essential.
